Advantages For Players
Players are already looking at the history display, and recognizing the types of combinations that are Poker For Roulette™ winners. Now the players can bet on such an outcome.
Like most other side bets, there is no strategy involved, making it a simple, easy decision to play.
Players can bet on overlapping spins, thereby always having multiple unresolved bets at active the same time.
Because Green 0 and 00 are fully wild, these "House Numbers" now become Player Numbers!
Advantages To The House
A community excitement is created, similar to the shared excitement at a craps table, drawing attention from passers-by.
It is easy to explain. Dealers can simply say, "You're betting that the next few spins will produce results that resemble a poker hand." Often, the dealer can point to the history display to show examples of prior winning combinations.
Since multiple players could win a large jackpot, the word-of-mouth generated by large wins, and marketing of such wins with group photos, would be of greater benefit for the casino than having single, one-at-a-time winners.
The planned electronic version will make the game even easier to operate, and allow for progressive jackpots.
Dealer Procedures - Manual Operations
The manually operated version needs simple equipment: A new table felt with a betting zone as illustrated at the right, 3 sets of 38 lammers to mark the winning number, a 38 position lammer rack, and three bet covers.
Players put their Roulette chips in the space along the back wall. After announcing, "No More Bets", the dealer puts a protective cover over these chips. Next to these chips are two more groups of covered chips, for each of the two prior spins while waiting for a third spin for resolution.
After placing the Dolly Marker on the winning number, pay the winning bets and muck the losers as usual. Place a lammer for the winning number onto the new cover, and slide all three covered groups of chips to the next position. Examine the three lammers to see if the last three spins contains a winning Poker For Roulette™ combination. If so, uncover the third group, pay those winners, then return the bet chips to the first betting oval. If there was no winning combination, uncover the third group and muck the chips.
Some jurisdictions allow the history board to be referenced to determine winners. In those areas, the lammers are optional, and could be used in the event that the history display / sensor is malfunctioning.
Dealer Procedures - Electronic Operations
Note: The electronic version is still in development. This is a description of the concept, betting circle and dealer control panel that is being designed.
Bets are placed in a sensor similar to a Let It Ride sensor. Lights will keep track of the multiple overlapping unresolved bets.
A dealer's control panel and display is utilized for all functions. Except when paying winners, and when entering info, the display shows the last few spins, and poker hand produced. A larger display with the same info is on the table, facing the players, or the info is incorporated into the history display.
At the appropriate time, announce "No More Bets," then press the 'No more bets' button.
When the ball stops, place the Dolly Marker on the number, muck the losing bets and all Poker For Roulette™ bets, and pay the winners as usual. Before removing the Dolly Marker, enter the result on the control panel, press 'OK', and pay winners as indicated on the display. For payments over a certain threshold, the display will indicate that a floor person needs to be called before paying.
If an incorrect digit is entered, use the 'X' key as a backspace. If the error was discovered after pressing 'OK', call a floor person to fix it.
In jurisdictions that allow using the history board or sensor to determine results, the control panel display will update automatically to indicate a winning combination that needs to be paid. In the event that the sensors malfunction, a floor person can fix it using the same procedure as if the dealer had entered the wrong number.
After paying, or if there was no winner on the Poker For Roulette™ bet, remove the Dolly Marker, announce "Place your bets" as usual, and press the 'Accept bets' button.
When the payment is above a certain threshold, the control panel will instruct the dealer to call the floor person. The floor person should ask the involved players for ID and Player's Cards, contact the cage for tax forms, and contact surveillance for review. Insert the key and press 'OK' and the display will show the amount to be paid.
Single Zero Game / Double Zero Wheel
Because the odds are different, separate pay tables would be needed for playing on single zero tables. The pay tables currently available are designed for double zero games. When played as a progressive, the jackpot is pooled with other tables. Separate jackpots would need to be established for playing on single zero tables and double zero tables.
Some jurisdictions, including NJ and PA, allow casinos to use a double zero wheel on a single zero table, with the proviso that any spin resulting in a double zero, is treated like a no-spin. Placing this jackpot bet on a single zero table with a double zero wheel, means that hitting a double zero can play for this side bet only, and all other bets will push. While having the double zero position play for this single bet and push for other bets may need Gaming approval, objections seem unlikely.
